Clear Bag Policy

South Atlanta High School families, please be advised of an important update to our Clear Bag Policy.

Effective immediately, ALL bags brought onto campus must be clear or mesh. This requirement applies to all students and includes athletic bags and bags used for extracurricular activities.

Please note that traditional athletic duffel bags, non-clear backpacks, gym sacks, and other non-clear bags will no longer be permitted. Student-athletes who need to bring uniforms, shoes, clothing, or athletic equipment should use a clear or mesh bag.

We ask all parents and guardians to review this expectation with their students and ensure they arrive on campus with an approved bag.

Thank you for partnering with us as we continue to prioritize a safe and secure learning environment for every Hornet.

Parental Involvement Policy

At South Atlanta High School, we believe engaged families help build stronger Hornets!

Our 2026–2027 Parental Involvement Policy and Plan for Shared Student Success outlines how South Atlanta will partner with families to strengthen parent engagement and support student achievement. The plan includes opportunities for families to participate in school programs, workshops, parent meetings, the School-Parent Compact, and other activities throughout the year.

Families are also encouraged to share their ideas and feedback as we continue building meaningful partnerships between school, home, and community.

Parent Compact

Our 2026–2027 School-Parent Compact outlines how students, families, teachers, and school leaders will work together to support academic achievement and strengthen the connection between school and home.

This year’s compact highlights our shared commitment to increasing literacy skills, strengthening math achievement, and supporting success in U.S. History, while also providing opportunities for families to remain informed and actively involved in their student’s education.

Screen Time Updates

In alignment with Atlanta Public Schools’ focus on Screen Value, we are shifting the conversation from “How much time are students spending on a screen?” to “What are students accomplishing while using technology?”

High-value technology use encourages students to research, create, collaborate, communicate, analyze data, solve problems, design, code, and demonstrate their learning. Whether students are developing digital portfolios, engaging in AI-assisted brainstorming, producing multimedia projects, or collaborating with classmates, technology should have a clear instructional purpose.

Our goal is to ensure that students are not simply passive consumers of technology. Instead, we want them using digital tools in ways that mirror the authentic work they will encounter in college and future careers.
